Hi Brayden, tell us about yourself.
Well, my name is Brayden Elliott and I'm from 'the gap' (Saskatchewan) as some people call it. I'm currently in between jobs, which leaves more time for photography and hopefully travel. I grew up in Saskatoon and travelled all the way to Lloydminster for college where I took business classes in between basketball practices which seems like ages ago. I won a three point competition in an Asian basketball tournament one time.
What about photography continues to drive you to shoot? How long have you been shooting and what do you like to photograph?
I only got into photography fairly recently, approximately a year ago actually, and it was just the social circle that I built with it so quickly that inspired and continues to inspire me. Everywhere I go now I bring along my camera and try to capture my point of view of a place, event, or person. And everywhere I go I meet people through it and I honestly can't imagine it not being an integral part of anything I do moving forward.
So many things to shoot and so little time, it just really never ends, and I really really like that. Being able to wake up at any hour of the night and head out for some street/city scape photography and later that day shooting shots for a friends new business, or head shots for a friend, or lifestyle shots for a brand all in a single day. It's a very good kind of overwhelming when I sit down and think about it like that; if that makes sense?! Haha
Do you have a favourite photographic moment?
Any trip where I meet up with a few of my old friends who are currently scattered across Canada; too hard to pick a single one. My friend Thomas aka The Littlest Hobo is currently located in Toronto and I try to meet up with him a couple times a year cause he always tours me around endlessly while I shoot anything and everything.
Who and where do you get your inspiration from? (photographers or other people in general.)
There are so many guys on Instagram (including the man running this blog) that it's become so hard to pick. I find myself drawing a little bit of inspiration from almost every photographer I follow. I'd also like to think of myself as the #1 fan of both James Harden and Waka Flocka Flame.
Any special projects on the go?
Currently shooting the Lifestyle shots for Hardpressed which is an awesome brand out of Saskatoon that's been doing some great clothing and accessories lately.
Do you have a favourite place to travel?
Definitely Berlin. The place just doesn't stop and it's got just the right amount of gully to it. If you're ever there head to a place called 'Pirates Berlin' (it may be a brothel, we never figured out whether it was or wasn't) and ask for Sasha. If Sasha doesn't work there anymore then you ask them how you can find him. When you find him you walk right up to him and say 'we're here to make party', he'll take care of the rest.
What gear do you use?
My most frequent set up is a Nikon D800E with a Sigma 35 1.4 Art on the end, but I recently picked up an 85 1.4 which I've been trying to include in more street shots just to switch it up a bit.
